The starting point for this hike is the "Unterstalleralm" in the Villgratental. Here you can park your car and walk to the dreamy small mountain village Oberstalleralm. It features 16 historic wooden huts, which were first mentioned in 1675 and a chapel. Some cabins can even be rented (rustic accommodation).
The natural lake "Weissensee" is located approximately 55km from Lienz, in Carinthia. Surrounded by fresh meadows and beautiful forests, it is the highest lake in Austria. Ask for the timetable and the prices at the hotel. Tickets can be purchased on board.
You will experience a gigantic spectacle of nature, especially in late spring and midsummer when the melting water of the glaciers flows into the valley. At that time the famous "Umbalfälle" are particularly impressive. The starting point for an easy circular walk, which is also suitable for the elderly and children, is the parking lot Ströden at Hinterbichl / Prägraten. After about half an hour walk you can reach the "Pebellalm" and "Islitzeralm". Here is the starting point for the first viewing path. Newly created platforms bring visitors up close to the "Umbalfälle". On boards along the way you will learn a lot of interesting facts about this natural monument.
